I have a great little tutorial to share with you today.
Easy, quick, affordable and super simple.
My kind of tutorial!
:)
When we purchased our home two years ago,
I absolutelty loved the window above our kitchen sink.
However, I did not have a curtain for it and knew I wanted some type of shade.
I searched for something simple and affordable.
Only to find nothing that I was happy with.
{Shocking, I know}
That was when I decided to come up with my own version of a roman shade.
I busted out my scissors, burlap, glue gun and some ribbon.
I knew I could make one myself for next to nothing.
And now, my friends, I will share the step by step instructions with you!
First, you will need to heat up your glue gun.
While it is heating up, measure your window top to bottom.
Next measure your window side to side.
I added six inches to both of these measurements.
This will allow a bit of fabric to gather {on the sides}
and will allow you a bit more fabric on the bottom {to fold up}
Next, on the side that will face the "inside" of your window,
fold your fabric over making a "pocket" of sorts for your rod to go through.
The size of your "pocket" will depend of the size of your rod.
You will then hot glue your fabric creating a "pocket"
This is just a straight line of hot glue the entire length of your curtain.
Now, if you are smart, you could iron it in place before you hot glue.
I was cooking dinner, making candles and helping little lady with homework.
Needless to say, this Mama did NOT heat up the iron for this project!
Keeping it real folks, keeping it REAL!
:)
Now, for the next step, I went ahead and put my curtain on the rod.
I then hung it on my window.
I cut two pieces of ribbon that I had on hand.
I measured absolutley nothing for this step.
I basically put both of my pieces of ribbon over the top of my curtain.
Letting them hang over the back and the front.
I gently folded up the bottom of my curtain.
Once I had the length I wanted, I just tied the bows and then trimmed my ribbon.
Creating a NO SEW roman shade!
:)
The last step I did, was hot glue the top of the ribbon to the burlap.
So far, this has held up very well.
I will tell you that behind the curtain, we have blinds.
I lower them at night, so I never actually have to untie the roman shade itself.
If I had to guess, I would say this was maybe a $5 project.
Burlap is SO cheap {yet SO lovely}
LOVE me some burlap!
I had the ribbon and the curtain rod on hand.
You could basically do this with any fabric.
I chose burlap because it was a nice neutral and easy to work with.
I also knew this was going to be a no sew project and no hem was needed.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
I will be linking up with these lovely inspiring ladies this week.
As well as with the fabulous Melissa at 320 Sycamore!

What a great way to make an easy roman shade. I really like how the burlap still lets some light in and is a little transparent...Thank you for sharing. Saw you on Sugar and Dots Linky Party.
