Roadside Find!

So, two days ago, the hubs comes home from work.
Much to my surprise, he unloads this chair.

So, I of course, ran into the house to grab my camera.
He knows well enough by now,
that he has just provided my next blog post!
:)

So, I cleaned her up.
Then, used an entire can of lysol on her.
Then, used an entire bottle of febreze on her.

Then, I brought her in the house.

For now, our little chair sits here, in our living room.
Someday soon she will be recovered.
Is she perfect?
Nope.
But, that's okay!

For now I take satisfaction in the fact,
 that we paid absolutely nothing for this chair!

And, now we have a new little seating area in our living room!
Perfect for reading, coloring, hot tea sipping, lego building, blogging.
The list just goes on and on!
;)

Have a fabulous Friday my friends!
I have big plans this weekend.
Like, REALLY big.
At least to me!

Going to a huge super duper gigantic flea market.
KID FREE!
Something that only happens only a few times a year.
Yes, I am serious.
SO, SO, SO BEYOND EXCITED.
This Mama needs a break!

Hopefully, I will have some great finds to share with you all next week!

What are your plans for the weekend?

What I Wore~$10 Walmart Bird Shirt

Howdy peeps.
Or should I say, tweet tweet peeps?
:)

Do you like birds?
I happen to LOVE them.

I know most folks either love or hate them.
And, many friends I have are down right scared of them!
Seriously.

But not this southern country gal.
I love me some birds.

Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon this little beauty.

At Walmart.

GASP!

For, $10 at that.
They had one medium left, and you better believe I snatched.it.up.
:)

This was too cute of a shirt NOT to share with the blog world.
Because I know, you are all waiting to see my WIW posts.
And, my strands of gray hair that are begging to be colored.
{Insert sarcasm here}

But, seriously.
I love the vintage look of this summer top.
I think it will be cute in the fall with a long sleeve tshirt under it too!

I also happened to stuble upon the sunnies at Walmart as well.
$5

I know!

Thanks for stopping by friends!

If you go on the hunt for a bird shirt at Walmart and find one,
PLEASE let me know!

At my local store the only color available was the black/white version.
I would LOVE to hear if your store carries different colors.
Then, you can ship me one.
Mmmmmmmmk!

XO

Snickerdoodle Popcorn Snack Mix

So, this week at school, our little lady has her state testing.
I knew I wanted to make something special for her to take to the teachers.
The stress level at her campus is slightly higher than normal this week!

I used what I had on hand and basically "made up" this recipe myself.
Although I have altered MANY recipes,
I can honestly say, I have never come up with one from scratch.

I knew something easy, sweet and delicious was in order.
This turned out SO delicious, so I decided to share with you!

Pop one bag of microwave popcorn {I used regular butter}
Dump in extra large bowl.

Then use your favorite cereal, graham crackers, etc.

I used what I had on hand.

4 cups of crispix
4 cups of corn chex
4 cups chocolate cheerios
1 pkg. broken up graham crackers

{Add all of this to your extra large bowl}

This is the fun part, throw in anything you want!

In a small pan, melt 2 sticks of butter over MEDIUM heat,
Add 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup brown sugar

{Stir well until disolved}

Add 2 tbs. cinnamon and mix well.

Pour butter mixture over snack mixture.
Stir very well, being sure to coat.
Spread mixture on cookie sheets to cool.

Package up your goodies {if you are giving it away}
If not, keep for yourself and don't blame me when you eat.it.all.

Seriously folks.
IT IS THAT GOOD!

Our Vegetable Garden

Happy Monday my friends!

Can you tell I am excited about our tomato plants?
Seriously.
So excited!
:)

There is NOTHING like growing your own fresh veges.
The look, the taste, the smell.
Ahhhhhhh,
my mouth is watering as I type!

Little man and I made a stop at the nursery last week.
We came home with a variety of tomato plants.
And our very favorite, squash plants.

We LOVE squash in these parts!
Every summer we enjoy a yummy squash casserole.
Using squash from our garden!
I make it so much, I think my family gets tired of eating it!
:)

The past two years, our garden was in the same place.
However, this year we decided to change things up a bit.

Normally, the hubs tills it up all at once.
But, due to our tiller petering out, we had to change things up a bit this year!

So, here is a little "before" picture.
This is the area in front of our shed where we decided to plant.

And, here we are, hard at work.
Especially me, it takes ALOT of work to take pictures, you know?

KIDDING!

As soon as I snapped a few pictures,
 I put the camera down and then began digging as well!

Shew, it was HARD work!

So excited about planting these bad boys!

Little lady giving us step by step instructions!
;)

After working hard, we were almost finished!

A huge thanks to my Grandpa,
who makes the most fabulous tomato cages EVER!

This year we also decided to put down weed mat.
This was the hubs fabulous idea.
{Of course}

After we tacked it down, we put dirt on top.
Sure hoping it will keep out those pesky weeds!

We shall see!

And, so far here we have the "after" of the start of our garden.
So excited to add more vegetables.

I SO love this time of year.

Have a great day my friends!

Thrifty Shelf Decor

Howdy, my dears!
Hope you all are doing fantastic!

Our little family has been very busy lately.
It seems once spring hits, every weekend fills up,
and we are always on the go!
:)

I am back today with part four to the thrifty decorating series.
Yay!

I would love for you to visit the first three parts in this series.
Get some great ideas on how to decorate on a budget!
The ONLY way this gal decorates her home!
:)

Let's start with the shelf itself, shall we?
The hubs and I purchased it at an estate sale ten years ago.
We paid $20 for it.

It was seafoam green and had no hardware.
Sounds fabulous, doesn't it?
Too bad I don't have a before picture!
;)

We decided to paint it a neutral off white.
We also added some hardware purchased from Lowes {$12}

Most of the old books were thrifted {$15 total} or were handed down in my family.

My FAVORITE book {under the ball}
is an antique czech bible.
It came over from Czechoslovakia with my Great-Great Grandparents.

Very special to me!

The glass jar was thrifted {$3} and so were the dominoes {$1}
The ball is from antique alley {$2}
The wood pineapple finial is from Homegoods {$10}

I love collecting bits of nature and using them for home decor.

Such as the piece that we brought home last summer from our Florida beach vacation.
Everytime I look at it, I remember what a special time we had.

The boxwood is from Ross. Purchased it years ago {$8}

The little glass jar was thrifted {50 cents}

The armilliary is from Hobby Lobby purchased half price last spring {$14}

The fleur de lis bell was purchased at Hobby Lobby, on sale also {$5}

All of the picture frames holding family pictures,
were either wedding, birthday or Christmas gifts.

I am slightly obsessed with frames and family pictures.
I love the memories that they hold.
:)

Another thrifty decor item I like to use,
framed fabric.

Simply grab an old frame and a piece of material.
Pop it in under your glass.

Add instant texture to any little space.
Such as this framed piece of linen.

So, there you have it friends!

Our little thrifty corner shelf and it's decor.

For a grand total of $90.50

Not too shabby, eh?
:)

Thanks for stopping by.
Sure hope you have a fabulous week!

Days Like These

Days like these make me so happy.
So, so, so happy.

Giggles in the backseat, on our way to the best park ever.

With trees so high, you can hardly see the tops of them.

And picnics so good that you never want to eat inside again.

Bridges so old that shake when you run accross them.
But you can't halp but stare at the lovely creek below.

Ice cream so yummy that you WILL buy these next time at the grocery store.

Two precious babies that are growing up WAY too fast.
That I want to savor every moment with.
Every.moment.

Dear time,
slow down please.
Thank you,
Amanda

A brother and sister that love one another.
And, are best friends.

Well, most of the time anyway!
;)

Sharing over at bits of splendor today.

DIY Dollar Store Easter Centerpiece

Do you decorate for Easter?
Typically, I set out a few things around the house.
Here and there.

A few years back,
I found this large glass jar while thrifting.

It has been in various place around our house.

Go figure.

Last year, I bought a bag of Easter eggs at the Dollar Tree.

When I brought them home,
I knew I didn't want to leave them "as is"
I wanted to give them a little "vintage" makeover!

So, I pulled out my mod podge and some old sheet music.
Cut some strips and placed them onto my eggs.

I think book page eggs would be super cute as well.

I also picked up the bag of moss at the Dollar Tree.
Placed it in the bottom of my jar, and then put my eggs on top!

So easy!
:)

Last year, I had them displayed in a basket.
This year, however, I knew I wanted something different.

Thanks for stopping by today!
:)

Until next time my friends!
